When you arrive at the Tropic Trailhead, you will see a parking area when the road ends in a small cul-de-sac. At the national park border fence, is a permanent and safe step-ladder providing easy access over the fence to the Tropic Trail. THE HIKE: This hike, up into the national park, is about 2.6 miles long. At first, you will traverse a lowland conifer forest section, then arrive at the breathtaking hoodoo rock structures about 2/3 of the way up the trail! The Tropic Trail is one of the “best kept secrets” at Bryce Canyon National Park! This trail will lead you to the famous national park trails: Peekaboo Loop, and Queen’s Garden/Navajo Loop considered by many to be the most beautiful 3-mile hike in the world!

The Barn @ Sevier River Ranch & Cattle Company is a private studio style apartment located on a quiet 280 acre cattle ranch in Hatch, between Bryce Canyon (25 mins) and Zion National Park (50 mins). The air conditioned and heated Barn is newly decorated with ranching antiques and consist of a main room with a king bed and a twin bed, a kitchenette with sink, microwave, refrigerator and "Nespresso" style automatic espresso and coffee maker (no stove or cooking utensils) and a private bathroom with bathtub/shower combination, toilet and sink. It sleeps 3 people. High speed Internet service (free wifi) and DirecTV satellite TV service are available. Two new cabins (Farriers Quarters and The Tack Room) that sleep 4 each and have full kitchens have been added to the same building - motel style. Two river view cabins are located on the ranch about 100 feet away: the Ranch Hands Bunkhouse and the Wranglers Quarters (each sleeps 2 in one California king bed), available for rent via separate listings. Should you need even more space for your group, you may consider renting the main Ranch House which sleeps 6 and is available via separate listing. You will enjoy a good night rest in eery silence. If you're from the big city, it will take some getting used to! The property is equipped with state-of-the-art electronic locks so that guests can check themselves in at any time, and late check-in is not a problem. Guests can roam freely on the ranch as well as fish (with a Utah fishing license, that can be purchased online) and swim in the Sevier River. Whether you are looking to explore the natural wonders of the area (the Barn is located between 2 of the most visited National Parks in the country) or whether you're an animal lover (there are horses and cattle on the property from Jume through December, many deer roam the property, and we have the biggest animal shelter in the US is 45 minutes away), the Barn has it all. Location The Barn is located on the Sevier River Ranch in Hatch, a small rural town of 200 people. Locals are very friendly and helpful, and you shouldn't hesitate to ask anyone for tips and recommendations. The Sevier River Ranch is very private on the edge of town. It sits on 280 acres and is traversed by the Sevier River, and there are typically 100+ head of cattle on the property during the summer season. Note that there are no grocery stores in Hatch and you should plan to bring at least some food with you. The nearest grocery store is in Panguitch (15 mins) and you will find a Walmart Supercenter in Cedar City (1 hour). There is no public transportation. You will need a car. A 4x4 or high clearance is recommended in order to enjoy the surrounding off-road trails, but a regular low-clearance sedan is sufficient to access the Barn itself. We have a strict no-pet and no-smoking policy.

The propane fire pit inside cranks a lot of heat out and also illuminates the TIPI inside. The TIPI is bolted and tied down onto a platform deck about 2ft off the ground, there’s no floor insulation so be sure to bring a good sleeping bag (and an extra blanket). Please note, currently there is no shower, water, or electricity on the property other than an outhouse which is located a short distance away from your TIPI. I provide a solar light but it’s a good idea to bring your own flashlights as a backup. WHAT TO BRING Below you can read about what I provide and the basic items I recommend you have with you during your stay (not all are required, I leave that up to you to determine). 1. I provide 4 deluxe sleeping cots, two backrest chairs, colorful Southwestern style wool pillows, colorful wool floor rugs, and a propane gas lava rock open flame burner for heat (bring a long stem lighter). You need to bring a SLEEPING BAG or a good blanket (and a pillow if you need). 2. There's no water on site so you’ll need to bring your own drinking water. I suggest buying a gallon or 2 at a grocery store, you can use it to drink and wash your hands. 3. There's no shower, bring a wash cloth and use your water to wipe down if you feel dusty and dirty after hiking all day. 4. There's no electricity onsite so, a portable battery charger for re-charging your phone is good to have. The solar powered camp light I provided does have one USB charging port, it works at night as long as it gets a good charge during the day. 5. I provide a solar powered light but it's not a bad idea to bring a small flashlight of your own because it is pitch dark at night if the moon is not out. 6. If you plan to grill, there's a small charcoal grill which I provide but you need to bring charcoal, a long stem lighter, and starter fluid. 7. If you want to burn a fire in the fire pit you'll need to buy fire wood (most stores here sell wood), bring some newspaper to get it started easily. The fire pit area is shared between guests so there could be some burning materials left behind but it's hard to say for sure. 8. If you want to eat dinner out at a restaurant I recommend Cafe Adobe in Hatch, however keep in mind it is closed on Sundays and Mondays, and they close early, sometimes by 7pm, so go early before 7pm. 9. Bring a trash bag, you'll need to haul your trash out with you when you leave. Local garbage dumpsters are located 3 miles South just before the town of Hatch. Turn right onto the gravel road just after you see the power station and save animals billboard sign. Bring your own fishing poles and walk to a secret tunnel that goes under Hwy 89 and go trout fishing in the Sevier river. Or, about 7 miles South of our place you can connect to the old Hwy 89 road which will take you to several fishing spots along the Sevier river. Make sure you get a fishing license. Hatch (4 miles South) and Panguitch (7 miles North) are the closet towns. Both offer great places to eat and some unique shopping stores. Some of our favorite places to eat in Panguitch are: C-Stop Pizza, Cowboys Smokehouse, and Kenny Ray's. Note many local businesses are closed on Sundays and many restaurants close before 8pm. Major retail stores like Walmart are located in Cedar City about 1 hour away. Cleaning Service Living Wage: We pay our cleaners fairly. We have a beautiful vacation home in the heart of scenic Southern Utah that we’d like to share. We do not have air conditioning, however at 7000' elevation it cools off quite quickly at night. We have installed ceiling fans in every bedroom and in the family room. If needed you can also open the windows in the evening and the house will cool off quickly. Pets are occasionally allowed if they have minimal shedding, potty trained, and not allowed on the furniture for an additional $30 fee per stay. There is an additional fee for the 7th and 8th guest of $19 per person, per night.
